The course consists of 3 hours per week, divided into 2 sessions of 1 hour 30 minutes.

The increase in hours compared with previous courses allows students to work on their English with greater depth and continuity, dedicating time both to introducing new content and to practising, reviewing and consolidating the knowledge and skills required to achieve a solid and increasingly independent A2 and continue progressing towards A2+.

We work with small groups, normally with a maximum of 8 students, allowing us to encourage participation, provide frequent opportunities for communication and closely monitor individual progress.

Sessions combine listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, together with communicative activities, projects and more developed tasks that require students to integrate different skills.

Homework is a regular part of the course and becomes increasingly important at this stage. As well as consolidating work covered in class, it helps students develop study habits, organisation, responsibility and independence, which become particularly important as they move towards Secondary education.

In New Horizons, the approach remains communicative, but students begin to work with the language with greater depth, accuracy and awareness of how it works.

An important part of the course involves transforming knowledge students have already encountered into language they can use more spontaneously, confidently and independently. For this reason, consolidating A2 is just as important as introducing new content.

Grammar is worked on both in context and more explicitly when useful, helping students to distinguish between structures, understand why they are used and apply them more accurately. At the same time, students expand their vocabulary and pay greater attention to common expressions, word combinations and more natural ways of expressing the same idea.

Students also develop strategies to plan and review texts, maintain a conversation even when they do not know a particular word, deduce meaning, identify relevant information and learn from their own mistakes.

At this stage, we encourage students to take greater responsibility for their learning, helping them become increasingly independent learners who are aware of both their strengths and the areas they need to improve.

Starting from an A2-level foundation, students consolidate their ability to talk about everyday situations, experiences, events and plans, while expanding the language they need to express themselves in greater detail, connect their ideas more effectively and communicate with less support.

Students develop their use of present, past and future forms, focusing not only on how structures are formed but also on choosing and using them appropriately in different contexts. They also expand the language needed to compare, describe, express obligation, possibility and preferences, discuss situations and consequences, ask more precise questions, and explain opinions and reasons.

In speaking, students gradually move from relatively short exchanges towards more developed conversations. They work on maintaining an interaction, asking follow-up questions, describing experiences and situations in greater detail, and expressing and justifying their opinions.

In reading, students work with stories, articles, informative texts and other material appropriate to their age and level, developing their ability to understand the overall meaning, specific information, details and meanings that are not always stated completely explicitly.

In listening, students learn to follow longer conversations and audio material, identify relevant information and understand the overall meaning even when they do not know all the vocabulary or structures being used.

In writing, students progress towards more developed and organised texts, including stories, descriptions, messages, emails and texts about experiences or opinions, paying increasing attention to organisation, linking words, grammatical accuracy and range of vocabulary.

The aim is for students to finish New Horizons with a well-consolidated A2 foundation and a more independent command of English, having progressed towards A2+ and being ready to continue subsequently towards B1.

Do students need previous knowledge of English or a level test?

Yes. New Horizons is designed for students who already have a foundation close to A2 level and are ready to consolidate it and continue progressing.

Students do not need to have completed Eureka’s previous courses. For new students, we may recommend a level test to make sure the course is suitable. We will also take into account each student’s age, school year, previous experience and individual learning needs.

For students who already study with us, we will normally be able to recommend the most appropriate group based on their progress and work during the previous academic year.

What ages and school years is New Horizons designed for?

New Horizons is aimed primarily at students in 6th year of Primary, which is the usual entry point to the course within our progression.

However, from this stage onwards we place greater emphasis on students’ level of English, so the course may also be suitable for Secondary students whose level, maturity and learning needs are compatible with the objectives of the group.

What level are students expected to reach?

The aim is to consolidate a solid A2 level and progress towards A2+, gradually developing a more confident and independent command of English.

We use the competencies associated with A2 Key for Schools as a reference point, without this meaning that all students are expected to take the exam.

The rate of progress can vary from one student to another, so levels are used as objectives and reference points, rather than automatic outcomes at the end of a course.

Why does the course increase to 3 hours per week?

From New Horizons onwards, we increase the course to 3 hours per week. This new stage allows us to work towards more clearly defined level objectives and dedicate the necessary time both to consolidating A2 and continuing to progress towards A2+.

The longer sessions allow more time for speaking practice, reading, writing, listening, projects, review and consolidation, as well as the introduction of new content.

Will students take an official exam?

No. New Horizons is not a specific preparation course for an official exam and students are not required to take any external examination.

However, we use the competencies and some of the task types associated with A2 Key for Schools as a reference point to guide learning and assess students’ progress.

How are groups formed?

Up to this stage, school year plays an important role when organising groups. From New Horizons onwards, coinciding with the increase to 3 hours per week, we begin to place greater emphasis on each student’s level of English and language-learning objectives.

The course is designed primarily for 6th year of Primary, but the same group may include Secondary students when their level, maturity and learning needs are compatible.

How many students are there in each group?

Are the teachers native speakers?

Our team consists of native English-speaking teachers or teachers with a native-equivalent level of English, selected both for their command of the language and their ability to work with children and teenagers and adapt classes to their age and needs.

Are classes taught entirely in English?

English is the main language of communication in the classroom and, at this level, students are expected to be able to use it for an increasingly large part of the lesson.

Spanish or Catalan may occasionally be used when helpful to clarify language points or facilitate learning.

Will there be homework?

Yes. Homework is a regular and important part of the course, helping students consolidate content, practise the different skills and develop effective study habits.

At this stage, we also aim to help students organise their work, take greater responsibility and develop independence outside the classroom.

What happens if a student misses a class?

If a student is unable to attend a class, we will provide the information or material needed to keep up with the group, whenever applicable. As these are group classes, sessions missed due to a student’s absence cannot be made up individually and are not deducted from the course fee.

How are the monthly fees calculated?

The price is calculated based on the complete academic year and teaching calendar, and the total amount is divided into 10 equal monthly payments. The monthly fee therefore does not correspond to the exact number of classes held during that particular month.

Due to public holidays, school holidays and the distribution of the academic calendar itself, some months have more classes than others, but these variations are already taken into account in the total course price.

What happens if Eureka has to cancel a class?

If Eureka has to cancel a class and we are unable to provide a substitute teacher, we will offer a replacement session. If it is not possible to reschedule the class, the corresponding amount will be deducted from the following payment, whether monthly or termly.

Are any discounts available?

Yes. We offer a 5% Family Members (FM) discount on monthly fees when two or more members of the same family are enrolled. In addition, students who are members of Club Natació Sabadell may be eligible for a discount on the enrolment or place-reservation fee. Full conditions can be found in the Discounts section.

Family Members (FM)

When two or more members of the same family are enrolled at Eureka, each receives a 5% discount on their monthly fee while their enrolments overlap during the course. For example, if two siblings are enrolled, both receive a 5% discount on their monthly fee.

Club Natació Sabadell Members (CNS)

Students who are members of Club Natació Sabadell can benefit from a €10 discount on the enrolment or place-reservation fee:

• New students: enrolment fee of €35 instead of €45.
• Current students: place-reservation fee of €20 instead of €30.

Discount Conditions

The Family Members (FM) discount applies to the monthly fees of each family member.

The discount for students who are members of Club Natació Sabadell (CNS) applies only to the enrolment or place-reservation fee, as applicable.
