The course is available in one of two weekly formats, depending on group formation:

• 2 hours per week: one 2-hour session.
• 3 hours per week: two 1.5-hour sessions.

Both formats provide regular contact with English throughout the course. The 3-hour-per-week format provides more time for exposure, practice and consolidation of the language covered.

We work in small groups, normally with a maximum of 8 students, encouraging participation and allowing close monitoring of each student’s progress.

Classes may be held in person in Sabadell or online, depending on demand and group formation. The online format offers particular flexibility for forming groups in the morning and early afternoon.

Homework and reinforcement activities are assigned regularly to consolidate what has been covered in class and maintain contact with English between sessions.

The course follows a practical, communicative approach, aimed at developing an advanced command of English that enables students to use the language accurately, fluently, flexibly and naturally across a wide range of situations.

Speaking, listening, reading and writing are developed in an integrated way, building a broad linguistic repertoire and placing particular emphasis on nuances of meaning, register, style and the selection of the most appropriate resources according to context and communicative intention.

At C1, particular importance is placed on the ability to express complex ideas with accuracy and subtlety. Students work on different ways of formulating and reformulating messages, introducing nuance, expressing varying degrees of certainty or commitment and adapting tone and register without losing fluency.

In spoken interaction, the aim is to develop spontaneous, flexible and natural communication, with students developing the ability to participate actively in complex conversations and discussions, respond quickly, build on other people’s contributions and defend or qualify a position effectively.

Students also develop their ability to structure complex arguments and develop ideas clearly and coherently, establishing relationships between concepts, evaluating different perspectives and using English to analyse, speculate, persuade, negotiate and express precise judgements.

Vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation are developed as tools for achieving greater accuracy, range and sophistication, extending students’ command of collocations, idiomatic expressions, advanced patterns and subtle differences in meaning, register and usage.

The aim is for English to become more than simply a language that students can use correctly and instead become a broad and flexible resource that they can adapt naturally to what they want to communicate and the situation they are in.

C1 course content builds on a solid B2/B2+ foundation and progresses towards topics, ideas and situations requiring more sophisticated, accurate and flexible use of English.

Areas explored include society and cultural change, the professional world and workplace relationships, education and knowledge, science and technology, the media and information, culture and identity, human behaviour and relationships, the environment and sustainability, economics and consumer issues, health and wellbeing, and current issues and debates.

Students develop their ability to analyse complex issues from different perspectives, construct and evaluate arguments, establish relationships between ideas, formulate hypotheses, speculate about causes and consequences and express positions and judgements with a high degree of accuracy and nuance.

In conversation, students work on the ability to participate spontaneously and effectively in complex exchanges, develop and challenge arguments, respond to other people’s contributions, reformulate ideas and adapt language, tone and register according to the context and the person they are communicating with.

Comprehension includes a wide range of advanced authentic texts, conversations and other materials, developing the ability to follow extended and complex discourse, identify relationships between ideas, recognise attitudes and intentions and interpret implied information and meaning.

In writing, greater emphasis is placed on producing clear, cohesive and well-structured texts on complex topics, developing arguments accurately, selecting an appropriate register and using a wide range of linguistic resources to express ideas and nuances effectively.

Vocabulary and grammar work aims to develop a broad, accurate and flexible repertoire, incorporating collocations, idiomatic expressions, advanced structures and linguistic alternatives that allow students to make increasingly precise choices about how to express a particular idea.

The C1 course is not designed to prepare students for a specific official exam. It can be particularly suitable for students who have already passed Cambridge B2 First and want to continue progressing towards C1 without necessarily preparing for Cambridge C1 Advanced, as well as any student with a solid B2/B2+ foundation who wants to develop an advanced command of English.

The aim is to progressively develop and consolidate a C1 level, characterised by greater fluency, accuracy, range, naturalness, adaptability and understanding of the nuances of the language.

Is previous knowledge of English required?

Yes. The C1 course is designed for adults who already have a solid B2 or B2+ foundation and want to progress towards a more advanced, accurate, flexible and natural command of English.

It is also particularly suitable for students who have already passed the Cambridge B2 First exam and want to continue progressing towards C1 without necessarily preparing for Cambridge C1 Advanced or another official exam.

It is not necessary to have completed the previous levels at Eureka.

How are the groups formed?

Groups are organised primarily according to students’ English level and availability. Previous experience, needs and learning objectives are also taken into account to form groups that are as compatible as possible.

The aim is to create balanced groups in which all students can participate, practise and progress at an appropriate pace.

How many students are there in each group?

We work with small groups, normally with a maximum of 8 students, which encourages participation and allows close monitoring of each student’s progress.

Are the teachers native speakers?

Our team consists of native teachers or teachers with a level of English equivalent to that of a native speaker, selected both for their command of the language and for their experience and ability to adapt classes to the level and needs of their students.

Are the classes entirely in English?

English is the main language of communication in the classroom and, at C1 level, students are expected to be able to operate almost entirely in English.

When useful for learning, Spanish or Catalan may occasionally be used to clarify particularly complex differences or linguistic nuances.

Is there homework?

Yes. Homework is a regular part of the course and is used to practise, reinforce and consolidate what has been covered in class.

The amount of work may vary depending on the content and needs of the group, and homework will not necessarily be assigned after every session.

What happens if a student misses a class?

If a student is unable to attend a class, the information or materials necessary to keep up with the group will be provided, where applicable.

As these are group classes, sessions missed due to a student’s absence cannot be made up individually and are not deducted from the fee.

How are the monthly fees calculated?

The price is calculated taking into account the full academic year and teaching calendar, and the total amount is divided into 10 equal monthly payments. The monthly fee therefore does not correspond to the exact number of classes held during that month.

Due to public holidays, school holidays and the way the calendar is distributed, some months have more classes and others fewer, but these variations are already taken into account in the total course price.

What happens if Eureka has to cancel a class?

If Eureka has to cancel a class and we are unable to provide a substitute teacher, a make-up session will be offered.

If it is not possible to make up the class, the corresponding amount will be deducted from the following payment.

Are any discounts available?

Yes. We offer a 5% Family Members (FM) discount on monthly fees when two or more members of the same family are enrolled.

University and Vocational Training (FP) students can receive a 10% STU discount on monthly fees, subject to proof of current student status.

In addition, students who are members of Club Natació Sabadell can receive a discount on their enrolment or place reservation fee.

Is a level test carried out before starting?

When necessary, a level test or assessment will be carried out before joining the course to confirm that C1 and the selected group are the most appropriate.

The aim is to ensure that each student has a sufficiently solid B2/B2+ foundation to work towards C1 and can make the most of the course.

Are materials included in the price?

Course materials are not included in the fee and are paid for separately.

Depending on the level and needs of the group, materials may consist of photocopiable materials adapted to the course, a coursebook or one or more books and supplementary materials.

Students will be informed of the materials required and their cost before the course begins.

Is it possible to change groups?

Yes. If a student’s circumstances or availability change, or if another group is considered better suited to their level or needs, a change of group can be considered.

Any change will be subject to availability and the level of the new group being appropriate.

Is C1 a Cambridge C1 Advanced preparation course?

No. The C1 course is designed to develop and consolidate a genuine C1 level of English rather than specifically prepare students for Cambridge C1 Advanced or another official exam.

It can be particularly suitable for students who have already passed Cambridge B2 First and want to continue progressing towards C1 without focusing their studies on another exam, as well as any student with a solid B2/B2+ foundation who wants to develop an advanced command of English.

Students specifically interested in obtaining an official qualification can choose an appropriate exam preparation course.

What level can be reached by the end of the course?

Progress will depend on the group’s weekly hours, the student’s starting level, their progress and the work completed throughout the course.

Groups with 3 hours per week have more time for exposure, practice and consolidation than groups with 2 hours, so the rate of progress may differ.

The aim of the course is to progressively develop and consolidate the skills associated with C1, including greater fluency, accuracy, linguistic range, understanding of nuance and the ability to adapt English to complex and demanding situations.

Achieving a fully consolidated C1 level may require more than one academic year, depending particularly on the starting level and each student’s rate of progress. Individual progress will be assessed at the end of the course to determine the most appropriate next step.

Family Members (FM)

When two or more members of the same family are enrolled at Eureka, each receives a 5% discount on their monthly fee while their enrolments overlap during the course.

For example, if two siblings are enrolled, both receive a 5% discount on their monthly fee.

Club Natació Sabadell (CNS) Members

Students who are members of Club Natació Sabadell can receive a €10 discount on the enrolment or place reservation fee:

• New students: enrolment fee of €35 instead of €45.
• Current students: place reservation fee of €20 instead of €30.

University and Vocational Training Students (STU)

University and Vocational Training (FP) students can receive a 10% discount on the monthly fees for adult English courses.

To receive the STU discount, students must provide proof of current student status during the course.

Discount Conditions

The Family Members (FM) discount applies to the monthly fees of each eligible family member.

The discount for Club Natació Sabadell (CNS) members applies only to the enrolment or place reservation fee, as applicable.

The Student (STU) discount applies to the monthly fees of university and Vocational Training (FP) students and is subject to proof of current student status.

FM and STU discounts cannot be combined with each other or with other promotions applying to monthly course fees, unless expressly stated otherwise.

As the CNS discount applies only to the enrolment or place reservation fee, it can be combined with either the FM or STU discount applying to monthly course fees.
