Our J4 English group (4-PRIM, Fourth of Primary) is designed to build on the skills from J3 and help children use English with greater fluency and accuracy in speaking, reading, and writing. At this stage, children can understand and use a broad range of vocabulary and grammar, read longer passages with good comprehension, and write short texts and paragraphs with more detail and organisation, while keeping learning fun, engaging, and interactive.

Who is it for?

• Children in their fourth year of Primary School, who have completed J3 or have similar experience in English.
• Families who want their children to further develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing
• Students ready to take part in extended conversations, read and understand longer texts, and write with greater independence.

Course objectives:

• Consolidate and extend grammar and vocabulary from J3.
• Learn to:
  • Talk about experiences and events in the past, present, and future using a range of tenses accurately.
  • Give detailed descriptions and tell stories with logical sequencing.
  • Understand and respond to questions about longer written texts.
  • Write short letters, emails, and descriptive paragraphs using linking words and varied sentence structures.

What the course covers:

Basic grammar and structures:

• Revision of to be, have got, can, and all forms of the present simple and continuous.
• Use of past simple (regular and irregular verbs) with more complex sentences.
• Introduction to present perfect for basic experiences.
• Use of future forms (going to, will).
• Comparative and superlative adjectives with a wider range of vocabulary.
• Prepositions of time, place, and movement.
• Question forms across all tenses studied.

Vocabulary:

• Hobbies and free-time activities, travel and holidays, nature and the environment, technology, sports, home life, food and cooking, festivals, feelings, and daily routines.

Activities:

• Role-plays and debates.
• Reading and summarising longer stories or factual texts.
• Pair and group projects (presentations, posters, creative writing tasks).
• Games, quizzes, and challenges to consolidate vocabulary and grammar.

Skills:

• Listening & Speaking: take part in extended conversations, describe events and experiences, give opinions, and ask follow-up questions.
• Reading & Writing: read and understand longer, more detailed texts; write short compositions with clear organisation and connected ideas.
