Our J1 English group (1-PRIM, First of Primary) is designed to build on the skills from infant education and help children develop a stronger foundation in English as they start their primary school journey. At this stage, children are ready to broaden their vocabulary, improve confidence in speaking, and begin reading and writing short, simple sentences while keeping learning fun and interactive.

Who is it for?

• Children starting their first year of Primary School, who have some prior exposure to English or are continuing from P5.
• Families who want their children to strengthen their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills from the very start of primary education.
• Students who are ready to communicate more independently in English through everyday topics.

Course objectives:

• Expand vocabulary and expressions through engaging topics, stories, songs, and games.
• Learn to:
  • Talk about themselves, their family, and daily routines.
  • Describe familiar places, people, and objects using simple sentences.
  • Understand and follow multi-step classroom instructions.
  • Begin reading short, simple sentences with support.
  • Write basic sentences using learned vocabulary and structures.

What the course covers:

Basic grammar and structures:

• Verb to be, have got, can and present simple of common verbs.
• Use of articles, pronouns, plural forms, and basic adjectives.
• Forming and answering simple questions in the present tense.

Vocabulary:

• Colours, numbers (1–50), family members, school subjects, classroom objects, animals, clothes, food and drinks, parts of the body, days of the week, hobbies, and daily activities.

Activities:

• Songs, chants, and role-plays to practise speaking.
• Storytelling and reading simple graded readers.
• Pair and group games for communication practice.
• Arts and crafts projects linked to vocabulary themes.

Skills:

• Listening & Speaking: respond to and use short, complete sentences; ask and answer simple questions about familiar topics.
• Reading & Writing: recognise and read familiar words and short sentences; copy and write sentences with visual and verbal support.
