The expression “the whole nine yards” means everything, the whole thing, with nothing left out. At Eureka, The Whole Nine Yards represents our approach to English for adults: a complete learning journey that develops all the essential language skills and helps students progress towards increasingly fluent, accurate and independent English.

“It’s In The Bag” is used when something is virtually achieved or you feel confident that it will be successful. In our learning journey, it represents the stage at which students consolidate a level of English that allows them to communicate independently and confidently in a wide range of situations, even when the language or context becomes more demanding.

Our B2 English course for adults is designed for students who want to achieve a high degree of independence in English, developing their ability to maintain fluent conversations, express and defend viewpoints, understand more complex content and adapt the way they communicate to different situations.

This is a General English course, designed to help students reach approximately B2 level and develop the corresponding language skills, without specific preparation for an official qualification.

Interested in the course but the timetable doesn’t work for you? Click “I’m interested” and let us know which times would suit you better.

It’s In The Bag continues our English learning journey for adults and is designed for students who can already communicate with a good degree of fluency and independence, but want to broaden their range and communicate confidently in more varied, complex and less predictable situations.

Throughout the course, students learn to participate more spontaneously in conversations, develop and defend arguments, explain ideas in detail, understand different points of view and adapt their language to the context and the person they are communicating with.

Students also develop a stronger understanding of longer and more demanding texts, conversations and other content, learning to identify not only main ideas but also relevant details, attitudes, opinions and implied information where the context allows.

Our aim is for students to have reached an approximate B2 level by the end of the course and to be able to use English with a high degree of independence in personal, social, academic and professional contexts.

The course consists of 2 hours of class per week, providing regular contact with English and allowing students to make steady progress throughout the academic year.

We work with small groups of no more than 6 students, encouraging active participation and giving each student genuine opportunities to use English throughout the class.

Our recommended format is face-to-face, particularly because of the opportunities it provides for interaction and communication. The course can also be offered online, depending on demand and group formation. Online groups generally require a minimum of 3–4 confirmed students.

Learning also continues outside the classroom. Homework and reinforcement activities will be set regularly to consolidate what has been covered in class, broaden students’ language resources and maintain regular contact with English between lessons.

Our approach is practical and communicative. At this level, we want students to use English not only accurately, but also with greater naturalness, flexibility and adaptability.

The 2-hour weekly format gives us time to work on the main language skills — speaking, listening, reading and writing — in a balanced way, alongside the vocabulary, pronunciation and language structures needed to develop a stronger command of English.

We place particular emphasis on speaking and interaction. Students learn to maintain longer and more spontaneous conversations, develop arguments, justify and qualify opinions, respond to different points of view, negotiate meaning and reformulate ideas when necessary.

Students also work on their ability to adapt their register and the way they express themselves to different contexts, progressively distinguishing between more informal situations and those that require more careful or formal language.

At this level, we also want students to be able to keep communicating even when they do not have exactly the word or structure they need, using alternative strategies and resources without losing the thread of the conversation.

The aim is for English to become less something that is simply “studied” and increasingly a tool that students can use confidently and independently.

Course content is organised around personal, social, academic and professional topics and areas of general interest, incorporating situations that require more precise, developed and flexible communication.

Throughout the course, students work with areas such as personal relationships and experiences, work and studies, society and current affairs, travel and culture, technology and the media, health and lifestyle, education, the environment, decisions, goals and hypothetical situations.

Students develop the language needed to explain and defend opinions, construct arguments, compare different points of view, speculate about possibilities, express degrees of certainty, negotiate, persuade, make recommendations and analyse advantages, disadvantages and consequences.

In listening and reading, students work with progressively broader and more complex content, developing their ability to identify main and supporting ideas, distinguish opinions and attitudes, recognise relationships between ideas and infer information or meaning from context.

In spoken and written communication, students learn to structure their ideas more effectively, develop coherent arguments, connect information in a wider variety of ways and select appropriate language according to their purpose and the situation.

Vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and language structures are integrated throughout the course, consolidating previous knowledge while broadening the range of resources needed for more accurate, natural, flexible and effective communication.

What level is required to start the course?

It’s In The Bag is designed for adults who can already communicate quite independently in English, maintain conversations on a variety of topics, explain opinions and experiences and understand the main points of relatively extended content.

B2 is the approximate target level for the end of the course, not an entry requirement.

No official qualification or certificate is required. If it is not clear whether this is the right course, our level test can be taken online or in person at Eureka. We recommend the in-person option whenever possible, as it allows us to assess the student’s level more accurately and advise on the most suitable group.

Students already studying at Eureka do not need to take another level test, as we will take into account their progress and the level reached during the previous course.

What if I studied English years ago but have forgotten some of it?

This is very common. A student’s current level does not always correspond to the last course or qualification completed, particularly when English has not been used for some time.

If there is any doubt, we recommend taking a level test or contacting us before enrolling. This allows us to assess which group is best suited to the student’s current knowledge and communication skills.

How many students are there in each group?

We work with small groups of no more than 6 students, allowing for active participation, close support and plenty of opportunities to use English during class.

Are the teachers native speakers?

Our team consists of native English-speaking teachers or teachers with a native-equivalent level of English, with experience teaching adults and working with groups at different levels.

Can the course be taken online?

Yes. Although we recommend face-to-face classes, the course can also be offered online depending on demand and group formation.

Online groups will open with a minimum of 3–4 confirmed students.

Will there be homework?

Yes. To reach and consolidate a level such as B2, it is important to maintain regular contact with English outside the classroom. Homework and reinforcement activities will be set to consolidate what has been covered, broaden students’ language resources and develop the different skills.

The amount and type of work will be adapted to the level and progress of the group.

Are all four language skills covered?

Yes. Throughout the course, speaking, listening, reading and writing are developed in an integrated way, alongside the vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and language structures needed to communicate with greater accuracy and flexibility.

We place particular emphasis on speaking and interaction, helping students participate more spontaneously, develop and defend their ideas and adapt to different communicative situations.

Are the classes entirely in English?

English will be the main language of communication in the classroom. At this level, students are expected to be able to follow the classes and use English regularly to communicate, discuss ideas, ask questions and participate in activities.

Other languages may occasionally be used when genuinely useful for clarifying a particularly complex concept.

Is it necessary to buy a textbook or any additional materials?

No. All materials required for the course are included and will be provided throughout the course according to the content covered and the needs of the group.

Will students reach B2 by the end of the course?

Our aim is for students to have reached an approximate B2 level by the end of the course. Progress will also depend on each student’s starting point, attendance, participation and the work completed both inside and outside the classroom.

Reaching this level means developing the language skills associated with B2, regardless of whether the student subsequently decides to obtain an official qualification.

Does this course prepare students for Cambridge B2 First?

No. It’s In The Bag is a General English course designed to help students reach approximately B2 level, but it does not specifically prepare students for the format, tasks or techniques of the Cambridge B2 First exam.

It is therefore a good option for students who want to reach B2 level without necessarily obtaining an official qualification.

For students who do need to take the exam and obtain the qualification, Eureka offers a dedicated Cambridge B2 First preparation course.

Is it possible to join after the course has started?

Yes, provided that places are available and the level of the group is suitable. If the course is already well underway, we will first assess whether joining at that stage is advisable and whether the student will be able to follow the classes comfortably.

Is it possible to change groups during the course?

Yes. We understand that students’ circumstances and availability can change during the course. It may also become apparent once classes have started that another group is better suited to a student’s level.

Provided that places are available and the level of the new group is appropriate, we will try to accommodate the change.

Can termly payments be split?

In some cases, yes. When the termly fee is relatively high, we may offer the option of splitting the termly fee into two payments of 50%, normally during the first two months of the term.

This is simply a payment facility and does not alter the termly rate or any applicable discounts.

What happens if a student misses a class?

If a student is unable to attend a class, we will provide the information and/or materials needed to catch up, whenever possible. As these are group classes, sessions missed due to a student’s absence cannot be made up individually and are not deducted from the course fee.

Fees are calculated on an average of 35 teaching weeks per academic year. The exact number of sessions may vary slightly depending on the day of the week and the calendar, and some groups may have an additional session. These minor variations are already reflected in the course price.

What happens if Eureka has to cancel a class?

If Eureka has to cancel a class and we are unable to provide a substitute teacher, we will offer a replacement session. If it is not possible to reschedule the class, the corresponding amount will be deducted from the next payment, whether monthly or termly.

Are discounts available?

Yes. We offer Friends & Family discounts and discounts for unemployed students, university students and students aged 65+. Full percentages and applicable conditions can be found in the Discounts section of this page.
