The course consists of 2 hours of English per week, with sessions designed to provide a balanced approach to the different language skills and maintain regular contact with English throughout the week.

The course can be taken in person at our Barcelona centre or online, depending on availability and group formation. Online groups will open once 3–4 students have been confirmed.

We work with small groups of no more than 6 students, allowing everyone to participate actively and enabling the teacher to monitor each student’s progress closely.

Homework is part of the course and will be set weekly to consolidate what has been covered in class, increase students’ contact with English outside the classroom and encourage greater independence and good study habits.

Our approach is communicative, practical and participative, with an increasing emphasis on students being able to use English with greater fluency, accuracy and independence.

English will be the main language of communication in the classroom, and students will be expected to use it increasingly regularly and spontaneously. Speaking will play a key role in developing their ability to express and justify opinions, develop ideas, compare different points of view and maintain more extended conversations.

Grammar and vocabulary are taught in meaningful contexts and combined with listening, reading and writing to increase both the range and accuracy of the English students use.

At this level, we encourage greater linguistic independence, helping students to rephrase, self-correct, use strategies when they lack a particular word or structure, and express themselves in an increasingly natural and effective way.

The course develops grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading and writing in an integrated way, starting from approximately B1 and progressing towards B1+ level.

Grammar and structures

Students will consolidate and extend structures such as narrative tenses, the present perfect simple and continuous, future forms, conditionals, modal verbs, the passive voice, reported speech and relative clauses. They will also work with a wider range of linking words and structures for expressing contrast, cause, consequence, opinions and possibility.

Vocabulary

Students will expand their vocabulary related to school and studies, relationships, travel, technology, media, society, culture, health and the environment, with particular attention to collocations, phrasal verbs, word formation, dependent prepositions and common expressions.

Speaking and communication

Students will develop their ability to maintain longer and less predictable conversations, express and justify opinions, compare different points of view, discuss advantages and disadvantages, speculate and develop their ideas in greater detail. Particular emphasis will be placed on fluency, spontaneity and greater accuracy when communicating.

Listening and Reading

Students will work with longer and more varied audio and written texts, developing strategies to understand main ideas and details, identify opinions and attitudes, make simple inferences and work out meaning from context.

Writing

Writing will be developed through progressively more substantial tasks, with attention to organising ideas, using paragraphs and linking words, grammatical accuracy and a wider range of vocabulary. The aim is to express ideas clearly, coherently and with increasing accuracy, without making extended writing the main focus of the course.

The aim is to develop the skills needed to achieve a solid B1+ level and establish a strong linguistic and communicative foundation for continued progress towards B2 level.

Is any previous knowledge of English or a level test required?

Yes. This course is designed for students starting at approximately B1 level who want to build on their knowledge and progress towards B1+.

For new students, we recommend taking a level test before joining the course. This can be done online or in person at Eureka, although we recommend the in-person option as it allows us to assess the student’s level more accurately and find the most suitable group.

Students who already study at Eureka do not need to take another level test, as we will take into account their progress and the level reached during the previous academic year.

How are groups organised by age and level?

Groups are organised primarily according to English level, as this is the key factor in ensuring appropriate progression. Pave the Way for Success is designed primarily for students in 2nd to 4th year of Secondary School.

We also take age and school year into account and, whenever possible, try not to mix students from more than two consecutive school years. If an older student needs to work at the same level, we will try to offer or create an equivalent group with students of a similar age, provided there is sufficient demand.

How many students are there in each group?

Are the teachers native speakers?

Our team consists of native English-speaking teachers or teachers with a native-equivalent level of English, selected both for their command of the language and their ability to work with teenagers and adapt classes to their age and level.

Are the classes entirely in English?

English will be the main language of communication in the classroom, and students will be expected to use it increasingly naturally and spontaneously. Other languages may occasionally be used when necessary to clarify specific concepts or aid understanding, but communication in English will be actively encouraged throughout the lessons.

Will there be homework?

Yes. Homework is an important part of the course and will be set weekly to consolidate what has been covered in class, reinforce areas that require additional practice and encourage greater independence and good study habits.

What happens if a student misses a class?

If a student is unable to attend a class, we will provide the information and/or materials needed to catch up, whenever possible. As these are group classes, sessions missed due to a student’s absence cannot be made up individually and are not deducted from the course fees.

Our fees are calculated on the basis of an average of 35 teaching weeks per academic year. The exact number of sessions may vary slightly depending on the day of the week and the academic calendar, and some groups may have an additional session. These small variations are already taken into account in the course fees.

What happens if Eureka has to cancel a class?

If Eureka has to cancel a class and we are unable to provide a substitute teacher, we will offer a make-up session. If it is not possible to reschedule the class, the corresponding amount will be deducted from the next payment, whether monthly or termly.

Friends & Family

10% discount for each new student, plus an additional 5% for each additional student, applicable for one term.

Unemployment Discount

15% discount on the course fee for one student per family throughout the academic year. Supporting documentation will be required.

Discount Conditions

Discounts cannot be combined. Where more than one discount applies, the most favourable discount will be applied.

For particularly small groups of 2 or 3 students, discounts will be subject to the viability of the group and Eureka reserves the right not to apply them.

Discounts apply to course fees and not to registration fees or other additional charges, unless expressly stated otherwise.
