Cambridge B1 Preliminary

The expression “take the plunge” is an idiom in English that means to make an important and risky decision, usually after thinking about it for a long time, or to dare to do something difficult or uncertain – essentially, “to take the step” despite the fears.
The B1 Preliminary (formerly known as PET) is an official Cambridge exam that certifies an intermediate (B1) level of English according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). It is designed for adults who want to prove they can use English in practical situations, both in everyday life and in professional contexts.
Who is it for?

Course objectives:
- Develop the 4 skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking) to a level that allows you to:
- Communicate confidently in English in everyday and basic professional contexts.
- Understand medium-difficulty texts and audio related to work, travel, or daily life.
- Write clear, well-structured texts such as emails, letters, and short compositions.

Prepare to pass the B1 Preliminary exam with confidence.
What is covered in the course:
- Grammar: basic and intermediate verb tenses (present, past, future), simple conditionals, basic passive voice, basic reported speech, modal verbs, and connectors.
- Vocabulary: real-life situations (work, travel, health, technology, social life), phrasal verbs, and useful expressions.
- Exam strategies: time management, reading and listening comprehension techniques, writing planning.
- Communication practice: speaking simulations, guided conversations, debates, and practical activities.
Exam structure:
- Reading (45min)
- 6 parts and 32 questions.
- Tasks include: multiple choice, matching, gap-fill text, cloze.
- Writing (45min)
- Two tasks: one email + one between an article or story.
- Listening (approx. 30min)
- 4 parts with a total of 25 questions.
- Tasks include: multiple choice, gap-fill, detailed comprehension.
- Speaking (approx. 10–12 min, in pairs)

4 parts: interview, long turn, discussion, and general conversation.

- Friends and family: 10% per “new” student + 5% cumulative for each additional student, applicable for one term.
- Unemployed people: 25% discount on any fee for 1 student throughout the entire course (DARDE document)
- University students: 20% discount on any fee for 1 student throughout the entire course.
