5-PRIM – English for Kids – J5

Our J5 English group (5-PRIM, Fifth of Primary) is designed to build on the skills from J4 and help children use English with increasing fluency and confidence in both spoken and written communication. At this stage, children can understand and use a wide variety of vocabulary and more complex grammar, read and understand longer and more detailed texts, and write short compositions with clearer structure and richer language, while continuing to learn in a fun, engaging, and interactive way.
Who is it for?
- Children in their fifth year of Primary School, who have completed J4 or have similar experience in English.
- Families who want their children to further strengthen their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for more advanced communication.
- Students ready to take part in longer discussions, read and analyse more detailed texts, and produce structured writing.
Course objectives:
- Consolidate and expand grammar and vocabulary from J4.
- Learn to:
- Talk about personal experiences, plans, and opinions with more detail and accuracy.
- Describe and narrate events in the past, present, and future with appropriate sequencing.
- Read and understand a range of short factual and narrative texts.
- Write short letters, emails, and descriptive or narrative paragraphs with clear organisation.
What the course covers:
Basic grammar and structures:
- Revision of all tenses studied previously (present simple and continuous, past simple, future forms).
- Introduction to past continuous.
- Use of present perfect for experiences and recent events.
- Wider range of comparative and superlative structures.
- Use of adverbs of frequency, degree, and manner.
- More complex sentence structures using conjunctions (because, so, although, when, etc.).
- Question formation across all tenses studied.
Vocabulary:
- School life, hobbies and leisure, sports, travel and holidays, nature and environment, technology, health, food and cooking, festivals, emotions, and personal interests.
Activities:
- Role-plays, discussions, and short presentations.
- Reading and summarising stories, news articles, or factual texts.
- Group and pair projects (presentations, posters, creative writing).
- Games, competitions, and challenges to reinforce grammar and vocabulary.
Skills:
- Listening & Speaking: participate in extended conversations, express and justify opinions, and tell stories using a range of tenses.
- Reading & Writing: read and understand longer and more complex texts; write short, structured compositions with linked ideas and varied vocabulary.
