B2.2 – English for Adults – Reach For The Stars

The expression “the whole nine yards” is an idiom in English that means: “everything possible” or “the full amount.” It is used when you want to show full effort or commitment or to emphasize completeness.
“Reach For The Stars” is our B2.2 course, the second sublevel of B2 according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). The expression refers to aiming for very high goals or ambitions, often beyond what seems easily achievable.
The course is designed for adults who have completed B2.1 or are confident upper-intermediate users, aiming to consolidate their skills and achieve full B2 proficiency, with a strong focus on fluency, precision, and exam-style communication tasks.
Who is it for?
- Adults who have completed B2.1 or are at an upper-intermediate level.
- Learners who want to communicate effectively and confidently in social, academic, and professional contexts.
- Those preparing for official exams (e.g., Cambridge B2 First) or transitioning toward an advanced (C1) level.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Speak fluently and accurately on a wide range of topics, expressing opinions, arguments, and hypotheses.
- Understand extended speech and written texts, including more abstract or specialized subjects.
- Use complex grammar structures naturally in spoken and written communication.
- Produce well-organized, coherent texts for academic, professional, or social purposes (essays, reports, reviews).
- Participate actively in discussions and debates, defending opinions and negotiating meaning.
- Develop strategies for dealing with unfamiliar language and maintaining communication in complex interactions.

- Global challenges: Discussing environmental, political, and social issues in depth.
- Culture and society: Analyzing cultural trends, traditions, and social changes.
- Work and education: Preparing for interviews, giving presentations, and debating career paths.
- Science and technology: Evaluating innovations, ethics, and their impact on modern life.
- Media and communication: Analyzing news, advertising, and the influence of media.
- Personal development: Reflecting on achievements, goals, and lifelong learning.
- Speculation and future scenarios: Discussing possible developments and their consequences.
Grammar:
- Advanced verb forms: Perfect and continuous combinations across tenses.
- Modal verbs for deduction, criticism, and advice (should have, could have, might have).
- Passive voice (complex forms, including reporting structures).
- Reported speech (including advanced reporting verbs and changes in time/reference).
- Conditionals: Advanced and mixed conditionals.
- Inversion for emphasis (e.g., Not only…, Hardly…, No sooner…).
- Advanced connectors and discourse markers: despite, nevertheless, moreover, in contrast.
Vocabulary:
- Global issues and abstract topics.
- Advanced collocations for work, study, and daily life.
- Idiomatic expressions and phrasal verbs for formal and informal contexts.
- Language for presenting arguments, speculating, and persuading.
- Descriptive and evaluative language for reviews and reports.
- Synonyms and paraphrasing for avoiding repetition in writing and speaking.
Skills Development:
- Speaking: Debates, presentations, and discussions; practicing persuasive and diplomatic language.
- Listening: Understanding lectures, interviews, and extended discussions.
- Reading: Analyzing articles, reviews, reports, and opinion texts.
- Writing: Producing structured essays, formal reports, reviews, and persuasive texts.
